SESAAU2026 - the 12th International Conference on Smart Energy Systems

The SES Conference has become a significant venue for academia, industry, consultancies, and utilities to engage in and discuss how to transition the energy system. Originally developed as a spin-off from the 4DH Research Centre on 4th Generation District Heating, the conference maintains a strong focus on district heating systems, while also targeting the integration with other sectors - electricity, cooling, industry, and transport - in line with the sector integration core of the smart energy system concept. In 2025, the conference welcomed 425 participants from 30 countries to a programme of 270 presentations.

SESAAU2026 takes place in Aalborg, Denmark, on 22-23 September 2026. Researchers and experts from industry and business are invited to contribute to further enhancing the knowledge of smart energy systems, 4th generation district heating, energy efficiency, electrification, CCUS and PtX.
